What Is Koinonia?

“46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people,” Acts 2:46&47

Koinonia îs an Ancient Greek word that means fellowship or community. It is a practice of the church from the very beginning, to gather together to be with one another through out the week. This would involve sharing a meal, prayer, worship, and studying the scriptures. At Awake Vancouver we believe that KOINONIA is an essential part of being a follower of Jesus. In addition to our Sunday Service we have Koinonia Groups that meet during the week.

Why Should I Be Apart Of A KoinoNia Group?

First, being a follower of Jesus means more than just attending a church service. Attending a weekly church service is good and important, but being a follower of Jesus is a change in life-style; it’s the way you live everyday. Being apart of a Koinonia Group helps surround you with family that will help you grow in your walk with Jesus. Also, life is hard and you can’t survive it alone. It’s important to have family, brothers and sisters in Christ that support you in the hard times, and celebrate with you in the good times! Lastly, being a follower of Jesus isn’t just about getting, it’s about giving; and it’s in these Koininia Groups were you will continue the mission of Jesus and serve your neighbourhood. Community is something we all need and long for and it is at the very heart of the gospel.

What Are Your Koinonia Groups Like?

Our atmosphere is very laid back, think of it like going to a friends house for dinner. These groups usually start with a shared meal. The rest of the evening centers around discussion and prayer. The discussion is lead by a group leader, and is based on the previous Sunday teaching. These smaller group settings provide the best opportunity for you to ask questions, share thoughts, and explore the scriptures deeper. Koinonia Groups aren’t just limited to weekly meet ups, the goal is to develop relationships that engage through out the week.

How do I attend?

Currently we have a house church that meets in North Burnaby and South Vancouver.
